Capital Letters
Capital letters are particularly intimidating in Blackletter Calligrpahy because there are so many different styles for writing them.
The Builder includes a complete set of uppercase letter stamps so you can easily add and modify those capitals with just a tap (of course, you can still also create your own versions with the guides)

I’ve also limited enrollment to offer as much individual attention as possible in the two workshops.

Ever since I was a kid, my heart’s belonged to the world of art and creativity – enchanted by the hum of lightsabers, the voyages of enterprising starships, and the heroic deeds of superheroes.
From drawing to photography, music to fountain pens, I’ve had quite a creative journey – but when I found calligraphy, I knew I’d discovered something special.

Frequently Asked Questions
When are the class dates?
The live workshops will be held over two Saturdays at the end of February and early March 2025:
- Session 1: February 22
- Session 2: March 1
Each class will be scheduled from 11am to noon (12:00pm) US Central Time (GMT-6)
After the last live session, you’ll continue to have access to the recordings (there is no expiration planned).
Will this be a live class?
YES! Each workshop session will be live with me, Tamer, as the instructor.
What if I can't make the live class or miss a day?
Each workshop will be recorded and uploaded here on learn.blackletterfoundry.com for you to view after the class so no worries if you can’t make it to a live session.
How long will I have access to the recordings?
You will have ongoing access to all of the recordings – there is no planned expiration, so you will have continued access to this course as long as the Blackletter Foundry learning platform is online.
Do I need the most expensive iPad to use Procreate?
Absolutely not! One of the great things about Procreate is that it works with a variety of iPad models. I had an earlier version of Procreate that ran on the very first iPad ever release (waaay back in 2010).

I don't have an iPad yet, which one should I get?
There are so many iPad models available now that it can be pretty hard to understand the differences and which one to buy. To help, I wrote a detailed article explaining the differences with suggestions on recommended models.

How do I know which model of iPad I own?
There are so many iPad models that have been released over the years that it can be pretty hard to figure out which one you have to check against the Procreate compatibility list (see the last FAQ question above).

Do I need a lot of supplies?
Not at all – in order to follow along, you will need any iPad, the app Procreate from the Apple App Store, and ideally an Apple Pencil. Technically, you can even draw and write with just your fingers (I’ve done this before!), but an Apple Pencil will make your experience much better and more natural.
I'm a total beginner - is this class for me?
You can absolutely take this class as a beginner. Although some background or experience with Procreate is helpful, I’ll provide a brief summary on the key elements for using the app before diving into the detailed workshop about how to use the Procreate Blackletter Builder product.
I've used Procreate - will this class be valuable for me?
This class is perfect if you already have some familiarity with Procreate. The majority of the classes will be focused on using the Procreate Blackletter Builder to write this style of calligraphy in Procreate. I’ll also share tips and tricks along the way and take student questions.
Do I need amazing handwriting to learn calligraphy?
Nope – and this new Procreate Blackletter Builder toolkit makes it easier than ever to create beautiful gothic calligraphy art. Anyone can learn to write beautifully. 😃
Do I need to be a computer expert to learn Procreate?
No, you don’t need to know anything about computers or technology to get value from this workshop or to be able to learn and use this Procreate. If you’ve ever written with a pencil or pen on paper, you already have all the skills you’ll need. You’ll also have access to the class recordings that you can continue to reference at your convenience in the future.
There are four versions of the Apple Pencil, will any of them work with my iPad?
Unfortunately, no. Each version of the pencil – is compatible with specific iPad models, and it can be pretty confusing. To figure out which one is compatible with your iPad:
